COLUMBUS, Ohio — After the firing of Ohio State men's basketball Head Coach Chris Holtmann, the Buckeyes appointed their associate head coach, Jake Diebler. 

Diebler is in his fifth season on the coaching staff for Ohio State. For the first three seasons, he served as an assistant coach. He was elevated to associate head coach beginning in the 2021-2022 season, per Ohio State athletics. He served as Buckeyes’ video coordinator in 2014-2016 when Ohio State advanced to two NCAA tournaments. He aided the development of 2014 National Defensive Player of the Year, Aaron Kraft and D’Angelo Russell, the No. 2 overall pick in 2015 NBA Draft and 2015 First-Team All-American.

He attended Fostoria High School in Ohio for three years and played under his father, Keith Diebler.

Diebler holds the all-time Ohio high school career records in both assists (835) and steals (578).

He then would go on to play 4 years at Valparaiso University. During his senior season, Diebler ranked in the top-10 in three categories in the Horizon league: minutes played (33.8 per game). 3-pointers made (1.8 per game) and steals (1.3 per game).

Diebler began his coaching career at Valparaiso. In 2012, he helped Valpo to a 22 win season and their only Horizon league regular season championship.

Jon Diebler, brother of Jake Diebler, attended Ohio State and was as a four-year-player. While attending Ohio State, Jon appeared in 144 games and averaged 10.7 points per game. Jon also holds an Ohio High School Basketball record. He has the most all-time points (3,208).

Coaching runs in the family for Diebler. His father Keith, coached high school basketball in the state of Ohio for almost 40 years, while his older brother Jeremiah coached high school basketball as well.

Jake Diebler will make his debut as head coach on Sunday, when the Buckeyes welcome Purdue. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
