COLUMBUS, Ohio — Hot on the heels of a successful summer of the Pride of Ohio drive-in movie series, and as a precaution to concerns from the pandemic, the Ohio History Center has added new programming to their annual All Hallows’ Eve event – drive-in movies!

Sleepy Hollow Drive-In will show spooky, family-friendly films on a large outdoor screen in the parking lot each Friday of October. In the spirit of All Hallows’ Eve, festive scenes will be set up throughout the Ohio History Center’s parking lots. 

“Drive-in movies were something we had never done before, but our parking lot at the Ohio History Center and Ohio Village was the perfect location,” says Emmy Beach, a spokeswoman for Ohio History Connection. “A summer drive-in is such a nostalgic experience—it was a great way for families to share memories and create new ones together.”

Beach says the success of the Pride of Ohio series gave her team the opportunity to present their traditional Halloween programming in a new way.

“Normally we would hold our annual All Hallows’ Eve event in Ohio Village in October,” she says “It’s our 19th century Halloween celebration that brings thousands to the village each year. The highlight is a fireside retelling of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This year, after watching the movie and leaving the event, families can listen to a radio retelling of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, dramatized by our Ohio Village team.

The Sleepy Hollow Drive-In lineup includes: Ghostbusters (Oct 2), Creature from the Black Lagoon (Oct 9), Beetlejuice (Oct 16), The Nightmare Before Christmas (Oct 23), and Hocus Pocus (Oct 30). 

Those who want to partake in the festivities will need to purchase a ticket in advance. One hundred cars will be allowed for each showing. Movies are shown at 5pm and 8:30pm and pricing is $40 per car for non-members, $25 per car for members, and free for premium members. 

General admission tickets for Sleepy Hollow Drive-In go on sale Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Member tickets are available now.

Like other museums and organizations, the pandemic has been a challenging time for the Ohio History Connection and they have needed to find new ways to engage with the community.

“We’re so happy with how our drive-in programming has allowed us to engage with our audience in a safe way during this pandemic and offer much-needed activities for families,” says Beach. “During Sleepy Hollow Drive-In, you might even get a visit from the Headless Horseman!”
