HOLDEN, Mass. - The Wachusett girls basketball team lost seven seniors to graduation last year, but the Mountaineers express just continues to roll on.
Wachusett beat Central Catholic 54-51 on Thursday night in the Division 1 Quarterfinals to return to the Final Four for the fourth straight year. This one was a battle, and wasn't decided until the final shot from Central Catholic. A 3-pointer at the buzzer missed the mark. Wachusett led by 4 at the half, and by only 1 point entering the 4th quarter.
Forward Jaelynn Scott led the Mountaineers with 20 points, while Ella Kielinen had 11 points off the bench.
"It feels great to be in the Final Four, just like we did last year," said Scott. "No one really knew how it was going to go because we lost seven seniors, but we worked hard and it paid off."
"It really feels great," said Guard Sophie Gibbons. "I thought we played really well, the other team really gave us a challenge. And I think we really handled it well. We worked really hard to prepare for this game."
Wachusett faces the winner of the Braintree and Woburn game at a time, date and location to be determined.
