COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State University announced the Community Crime Map is active again as spring semester begins.

The map was offline during the fall semester due to a ransomware attack that affected the City of Columbus and its data.

The map pulls data from the Columbus Division of Police crime log and shows off-campus crime reports. It features a one-mile radius of crime-related events, which includes reports over the last seven days.

Through the map, you can also:

  • Turn on additional crime categories
  • Access months or years of data
  • See heat maps and trends, including time of day
  • Sign up for crime alerts (daily, weekly or monthly)
  • Enter your own, personal home address to set up tailored alerts

While it also shows off-campus crime, it also shows crime that's outside of the Ohio State University Police Division jurisdiction.

If a crime happens on campus, the Ohio State Department of Public Safety uses different methods to communicate messages to students and staff, such as utilizing the Buckeye Alert System, social media and more.

All crimes on campus that the OSUPD reports to can be found here.
