LAKEWOOD, Ohio — The Lakewood Police Department, in a post on the social media, announced that a number of vehicles in the Nicholson-Emerson-Harlon area had their license plates swapped over the weekend.
They recommend those who live in the area check that their plate is their own before driving again and ask anyone who notices their license plate has been changed call their non-emergency line at 216-521-6773.
If you aren’t sure what your plate number is, you can check on your registration or on the BMV website. They also note that you can purchase locking screws and fasteners at hardware and auto stores to help prevent this.
“The switching of license plates is considered a felony theft offense, and any and all perpetrators will be charged and prosecuted accordingly,” the post reads.
