AKRON, Ohio — Two months after a June 2 shooting in Akron that left dozens injured and one dead, police say the investigation is still ongoing.
“There are no new updates to the investigation. There is still reported 29 victims,” Lt. Brent Bauknecht with the Akron Police Department wrote in an email to Spectrum News 1. “Our detectives are following up on every lead as they continue to investigate this incident. We continue to ask anyone with information to reach out to the Akron Police Department.”
The shooting rattled the community, causing weekend events around the Juneteenth holiday to be canceled after city council members expressed safety concerns. The city also recently announced that the Gun Violence Response Fund set up to support victims and families after the June 2 shooting has received $264,455 in pledges.
