CLEVELAND — University Hospitals has announced it is expanding its Future Nurse Academy program with locations now on the east, west and central parts of town thanks to partnerships with local colleges, according to a UH press release.
The program was officially introduced last year, and is meant to “expose high school students to a compelling and rewarding career in nursing.” The paid summer program lasts two weeks.
“The UH Future Nurse Academy sets students up for success by connecting them with UH clinicians and partners, and providing an array of opportunities for hands-on learning,” said Michelle Hereford, system chief nurse executive and Ethel Morikis endowed chair in nursing leadership, in the release. “The Academy builds on students’ existing skills to help them navigate healthcare career paths following high school graduation.”
Students involved with the program will tour medical facilities, receive skill training, learn best practices and more during their time in this academy.
The sessions are as follows:
- Lakeland Community College June 17-28
- Cuyahoga Community College July 8-19
- Lorain Community College from July 22 – Aug. 2
According to the release, there are 78 students involved in the program this year from 43 high schools and 45 cities.
