PENINSULA, Ohio — The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will resume operations this week after a nearly two-month hiatus.

In March, CVSR officials announced the hiatus in order to do safety upgrades. They made upgrades to their radio communications, operation management software and safety cameras in the locomotives. The railroad also implemented new operating rules and procedures.

Joe Mazur, president and CEO of CVSR, said in a press release the upgrades were much needed and expressed excitement for the future of the railroad.

"CVSR stands as a testament to excellence in scenic railroading, a leader of industry innovation and dedication. Our team's relentless pursuit of safety and service excellence defines us. I am immensely proud of our staff and volunteers, whose commitment and hard work has paved the way for our return to the rails. We are so excited to welcome passengers back on Friday and deliver unforgettable experiences on board one of the nation's premier scenic railroads," Mazur said.

Starting Friday morning, the Cuyahoga Valley will hear that familiar whistle once again for its first department from Akron to Peninsula.
