PENINSULA, Ohio — The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad announced this week it's taking a hiatus the next two months for safety upgrades.

Among the improvements include advancements in radio communications, operations management software and onboard camera systems, according to a press release. The railroad also plans on implementing new operating rules to improve safer and more efficient travel for passengers.

“Earlier this week, we received the much-awaited funding and trustee approval to move forward with these enhancements. We understand that the decision to suspend operations will cause disappointment to some of our scheduled passengers, for that we are truly sorry, however, it’s never too soon to make continued improvements when safety is concerned.” said CVSR President and CEO Joe Mazur in a press release.

CVSR said anyone who has purchased tickets between March 8 and May 2 will be notified of the cancellations and offered a full refund.
