OHIO — A handful of schools around the state dismissed students early Tuesday or were closed in preparation for severe weather expected to hit the state in the afternoon.
For Tuesday, an unusually elevated severe weather threat is possible across Ohio. The storms are expected to bring damaging winds and large hail, along with tornadoes. A few of these could be strong tornadoes that remain on the ground for a long time.

Because of the severe weather threat, schools took precaution and let students out early.
- Carrollton Exempted Village Schools let high school and middle school students out at 11:30 a.m., and elementary school students were dismissed at noon.
- Conotton Valley Union Local Schools dismissed students at 10:30 a.m.
- Olentangy Schools are dismissing 90 minutes early. All afternoon preschool classes and after-school activities are canceled.
- Noble Local Schools closed due to flooding.
- Clearfork Valley Local Schools released students at 12:30 p.m. All after-school activities are canceled. The district said the school handicap bus departed at 11:50 a.m.
- Madison Local School District was closed Tuesday in preparation. The Early Childhood Learning Center will close at 2 p.m.
- Columbus State Community College canceled all evening classes starting at 4 p.m. at all locations due to expected severe weather. In-person student services at Columbus, Delaware campuses and regional learning centers also close at 4 p.m.
- University of Dayton has cancelled all classes after 2 p.m., and the Roesch Library will close at the same time as well. They are recommending non-essential personnel leave campus and work from home if possible.
- Sinclair Community College is closing campuses at 2:30 p.m. due to severe weather. Remote classes will resume as normal as well as off-site learning experiences. Employees are recommended to work remote if able.
