CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians continued adding to their staff Friday, announcing Craig Albernaz as their new Major League field coordinator.
Albernaz spent the last four seasons as the bullpen coach of the San Francisco Giants, where his relievers posted the lowest ERA in Major League Baseball (2.99). Before his stint with the Giants, Albernaz coached and managed in the Tampa Bay Rays development system. During that time, he boasted a two-year managerial record of 145-83 (.636) in Single-A Hudson Valley and Single-A Bowling Green. He then served as a Minor League field coordinator for the Tampa Bay Rays development system in 2019.
Albernaz spent nine seasons in the Tampa Bay and Detroit organizations where he appeared in 380 total games, including parts of five seasons at the Triple-A level. During his time in the Rays system, he was a teammate of newly hired Manager Stephen Vogt.
In his new role, Albernaz will assist Vogt and the day-to-day operations of the Cleveland Guardians.
