CINCINNATI — The Covington Police Department said Monday they made an arrest in connection to four bomb threats this month against the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge.
A 14-year-old teen allegedly made the threats and was charged in Kenton County with four counts of Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree, according to police. The determination was made after a joint investigation with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) partners, Covington Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
The same juvenile was also taken into custody in Michigan on an unrelated matter, officials said. The name won’t be released because of the suspect’s age.
The threats occurred within about a week. The bridge had to be closed five times total, but officials said the teen was allegedly responsible for four. The other time, it closed because someone reported a “suspicious bag” on the bridge, which had been deemed not hazardous.
“We would like to specifically thank the FBI Louisville/Covington Resident Agency for their hard work and tenacity in bringing the person responsible to justice. The partnership we share with this organization continues to prove itself an asset to the city and the region. Thank you for everyone’s patience as we worked to ensure the public’s safety following each threat,” Covington police said.
