TWINSBURG, Ohio — The number of animals at the Humane Society of Summit County is at a record high, with more than 250 pets available for adoption.

To motivate families to visit the facility, the humane society will offer 50% off adoptions through the end of July in its Hot Dogs and Cool Cats: A Tail-Wagging and Purr-fect Adopt-a-thon, the agency said in a release.

So far this year, the humane society has taken in more than 1,00 animals, while adoptions have not kept pace with the intake, said Director of Operations Kristin Branagan.

“We need our community now more than ever to open their hearts and homes to our homeless animals,” Branagan said. “Pet adoption has double the impact – when you give a pet a home, there is now space and resources available for another animal in need of our lifesaving services and a second chance at our shelter.”

Those who visit the shelter from now through July 31 will work directly with the humane society’s adoption counselors who will help identify animals who are a good fit and provide guidance on the adoption process, so the experience is easy and enjoyable, the agency said.

Prior to adoption, all available animals are up to date on vaccinations and preventative treatments, and are spayed, neutered and micro-chipped.

During July, with application approval, adopters can take home a pet older than six months for a special half-price adoption fee.

Adoptions are conducted by appointment, which can be scheduled by calling 330-487-0333.
