CLEVELAND — On Sunday, the National Weather Service confirmed at least 9 tornadoes touched down in Ohio during Thursday night's storms.

  • NWS said the first tornado touched down in Lucas County and was rated as an EF-2
  • The second tornado was confirmed near Nankin in Ashland County, which NWS rated as an EF-0
  • The third tornado, also rated EF-2, hit in Ottawa County

  • Three more tornadoes were in Sandusky County and three were reported in Huron County

  • Some areas reported damage, like Sandusky, while others reported large hail, strong winds and a lot of lightning

Sunday's report confirmed a ninth tornado hit near Vickery in Sandusky County. NWS rated it as an EF-0 with winds of 80 mph, and it traveled 0.33 miles. 

Storm confirmation reports began as early as Thirsday evening, starting with a tornado that touched down in Lucas County near Point Place and just five miles north of downtown Toledo. NWS rated this tornado as an EF-2. 

The confirmed touchdown time was at 6:06 p.m., and it traveled for 2 miles. NWS confirmed sighting of this tornado Thursday night around 7:01 p.m. and finalized the confirmation on Friday.

A second tornado was confirmed near Nankin in Ashland County, which NWS rated as an EF-0.

This tornado touched down at 8:45 p.m. between County Road 801 and State Route 58, northeast of Nankin. NWS said it traveled for 1.2 miles at 85 mph, tracking southeast toward Township Road 713. Some buildings sustained damage. 

NWS confirmed a third tornado hit south of Oak Harbor in Ottawa County. This was rated as an EF-2 tornado that touched down at 6:46 p.m. and traveled 3.45 miles at 130 mph. This tornado caused damage to five homes and seven barns, NWS said.

NWS crews were out surveying Saturday, confirming five other tornados touched down.

In Sandusky County two tornadoes touched down, one in Rice Township, an EF-1, and another in Bellevue, EF-0.

Other areas around Sandusky reported damage, while other areas experienced large hail. 

The last three tornadoes touched down in Huron County. An EF-2 was in Peru and two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in North Fairfield and Greenwich.

The tornado in North Fairfield had winds reach a maximum speed of 110 mph and touched down just before 8 p.m. While the Greenwich storm had winds reach 105 mph at maximum speed.
