MILWAUKEE — St. Norbert College’s Ben Chan, a professor of philosophy, had five wins in a row on Jeopardy! under his belt Wednesday, and while production rules barred him from saying how much longer that streak would continue, his solid run had already qualified him to take part in the upcoming Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions.
“I’ve been a fan since I was a little kid,” Chan said. “One of my friends put it best — it’s hard to live in America and not even accidentally watch hundreds of hours of Jeopardy!”
Chan had won roughly $157,000 on the show as of Wednesday, and he said his calm demeanor on the show was in part due to all his preparation ahead of time.
“In general, I’m a pretty nervous preparer, whether I’m preparing for a party, I’ll be very nervous all day, getting my house ready,” Chan said. “But once the party comes, I’m able to relax and just have fun, and I found the experience was pretty similar with Jeopardy!”
On Monday, Chan won $60,000, which host Mayim Bialik told viewers that was the second-highest one-day amount this season.
