COLUMBUS, Ohio — A federal grand jury has indicted Nalah Jackson, 24, on two charges of kidnapping a minor in relation to her December arrest for allegedly stealing a car with 5-month-olds Kyair and Kason Thomas inside.

Jackson was arrested in Indianapolis on Dec. 22, three days after the twins went missing, with Kason Thomas found a short time later, still in the vehicle. Kyair Thomas was found hours after the abduction at the Dayton International Airport.

The kidnapping charges each carry a sentence of 20 years to life incarceration. 

“Jackson is currently in custody in Indiana and will be transported to the Southern District of Ohio to face her federal charges in U.S. District Court in Columbus," said U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker in a press release announcing the indictments. "Those federal charges will supersede her current state charge of kidnapping.”

“Protection of our youth is vital and ensuring the safe return of the children in this case was paramount. Now, as we move into the accountability phase of this incident, I can assure you that my office will continue to work with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners in Ohio and Indiana to fully investigate the matter.”

The case will be tried by assistant U.S. attorneys Emily K. Czerniejewski and Noah R. Litton. No time frame was provided.
