CANTON, Ohio — Good things come in pairs, which has turned into a theme at the Ohio High School Athletic Association state football championships.

In the Division VII final, New Bremen became the second Midwest Athletic School to win a state title on Saturday (joining Marion Local), beating Warren John F. Kennedy 38-6.
The Cardinals opened with a 13-play, 64-yard precision drive to take a 7-0 lead. That grew to 14-0 when quarterback David Homan scampered for 67-yards and a score.
Trailing 24-0 at the break, the Eagles took the second half kickoff and marched 65 yards in 10 plays to pull within 24-6 after the two-point version failed.
Homan and the New Bremen running game dominated as the Cardinals established a new OHSAA Division VII championship game record with 287 yards rushing. Homan accounted for 234 of that on 25 carries, while completing 7 of 9 passes for 77 yards. Hunter Schaefer added 53 yards and a score on 19 carries.
Antonio Smith had 97 yards rushing on 15 carries for Warren JFK.
It’s been a weekend of pairs at the OHSAA championships. Both Canfield and South Range (located in Canfield) won their school’s first titles on Friday in Division III and V, respectively.
St. Edward won back-to-back Division I state titles on Friday night, the first repeat champion in that division since … St. Edward in 2014-15. The Eagles also featured starting offensive lineman who are identical twins, Devontae and Dontae Armstrong.
Marion Local started Saturday with the Flyers' second straight championship, knocking off Kirtland in Division VI. Marion Local won the Division VII crown in 2021.
Sticking with the theme, New Bremen won its second state title in three years, also defeating Warren JFK in the 2020 Division VII championship.
