CANTON, Ohio — For the first time in seven years, there is a repeat champion in Division I football in the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Just like in in 2014-15, it’s St. Edward pulling off the back-to-back titles.
What You Need To Know

- St. Edward is the first back-to-back Div. I state champ since also doing it in 2014-15
The Eagles defeated Springfield in a rematch of last year’s championship, winning 28-14.
As has been the case all year, the defense was the story for St. Edward. The Eagles registered nine sacks and limited Springfield’s high-powered passing attack, which came in averaging 316 yards a game, to just 206 in the championship game.
Wyatt Gedeon registered 3.5 sacks and Michael Kilbane added three. That duo finishes their senior seasons combining for 39 sacks on the year.
Answering the bell on offense for St. Edward was running back Marvin Bell, who ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. Quarterback Casey Bullock operated with precision, completing 8 of 13 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 101 yards and added a rushing score.
Bryce Schondelmyer was strong in defeat, completing 21 of 30 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown.
It’s the sixth state title for St. Edward, all since 2010 (2010, 2014-15, 2018, 2021-22), topped by only eight other schools in OHSAA history.
There are three more championship games on Saturday, beginning with the highly anticipated match-up in Division VI between unbeaten powers Kirtland and Marion Local at 10:30 a.m. Then at 3 p.m. it’s the Division VII final with Warren John F. Kennedy squaring off against New Bremen. It all wraps up with Glenville and Wyoming — also a battle of unbeaten teams — in the Division IV championship at 7:30 p.m.
