DAYTON, Ohio — Richmond Heights climbed to new heights, winning the school’s first OHSAA boys basketball championship by defeating Tri-Village in the Division IV title game, 50-29.

What You Need To Know

  • Richmond Heights defeated Tri-Village in the Division IV boys basketball state final, 50-29

  • It is the first boys basketball championship in Richmond Heights history

  • The Spartans won without Josiah Harris, who signed to play basketball at West Virginia

The Spartans (25-4) played without top senior Josiah Harris, who signed to play at West Virginia, and who suffered an injury in Saturday’s semifinal win over Berlin Hiland.

Remarkably, Richmond Heights improved to 6-0 on the year with Harris out of the lineup.

Helping to absorb that loss was Jaiden Cox-Holloway, a junior who scored a game-high 18, including four made 3-point shots.

The Spartans also got big contributions from freshman guards De’Erick Barber (9) and Dorian Jones (7) who combined for 16 points, and kept Tri-Village from ever really becoming comfortable on offense.

The Patriots (26-4) got 13 points from Layne Sarver. It was a frustrating night on offense for Tri-Village, shooting just 31.3%, and turning the ball over 16 times.

Just one more championship games to go on Spectrum News and the Spectrum News App, and it’s a big one.
