CLEVELAND — A water main break in Richmond Heights has prompted a boil advisory for several other east Cleveland communities. 

The break happened around 3:30 a.m. on Highland Road and Cleveland Water issued the boil advisory around 8:45 a.m. for the following areas:

  • Richmond Heights
  • Mayfield
  • Mayfield Heights
  • University Heights
  • Gates Mills
  • Lyndhurst
  • South Euclid
  • Euclid

Several homes may be without water temporarily. The advisory is expected to last through Wednesday. 

Many schools and some day cares are also closed because of the break, including:

  • South Euclid-Lyndhurst City
  • St. Paschal Baylon
  • Richmond Heights Local Schools
  • Millridge Elementary
  • Mayfield High
  • Mayfield Center Elementary
  • Julie Billiart School-Lyndhurst
  • Hawken Lower-Mid
  • Gesu
  • Early Steps Learning Center on Richmond Road
  • Corpus Christi Academy
  • Apples of Gold Enrichment Center

Cleveland Water recommends boiling the water before drinking it or use bottled water. The break is from a 54-inch water main, according to officials. Crews are currently working to get it under control.
