CLEVELAND — The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections saw 3,308 voters visit the early voting center over the last month to cast a ballot ahead of Tuesday’s municipal primaries. 

What You Need To Know

  • Nearly 6% of eligible voters in Cuyahoga County have voted early before Tuesday’s municipal primaries

  • Four Cuyahoga County cities — Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, East Cleveland and Garfield Heights — are holding mayoral primaries

  • Voters who requested an early ballot can turn in their ballot by hand until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday

  • Polls are open 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday

Out of the 3,308 voters, 341 early in-person voters cast a ballot at the Board of Elections on Monday, the final day of early voting. 

In addition to the 3,308 early voters, 15,389 mail-in ballots were returned to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections as of Saturday afternoon. There are still several thousand mail-in ballots that have not been returned. Mail-in ballots that were not postmarked by Monday may be hand delivered to the Board of Elections by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.

Those who requested a mail-in ballot but failed to return the ballot may also go to their polling location and vote provisionally. 

All or parts of seven Cuyahoga County municipalities are holding primaries on Tuesday. The most prominent of the races is the Cleveland mayoral race as seven candidates vie to replace four-term Mayor Frank Jackson. 

As of Monday afternoon, 13,506 out of 247,742 eligible voters cast a ballot in Cleveland. In addition to the mayoral race, several Cleveland wards are having city council primaries.  

By far, Ward 17 on the city’s west side has had the strongest turnout with 9.4% of eligible voters having already returned a ballot. In addition to the city’s mayoral race, a three-way city council primary between Mary Kathleen O'Malley, Charles J. Slife and Kenneth S. Trump is being held. 

For those that did not participate in early voting, polls will be open Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
