The CML Board of Trustees voted to approve the mandate after Mayor Andrew Ginther issued an indoor mask requirement for the city of Columbus due to rising COVID-19 cases.

The mask mandate went into effect on Friday and applies to public venues, such as groceries, restaurants, theaters and shops.

The library system has 15 libraries in the Columbus city limits, according to a press release from Columbus Metropolitan Library spokesmen Ben Zenitsky and Gregg Dodd.

The vote by the board of trustees extends the mandate to all 23 locations, including those eight located outside of Columbus: CML’s Canal Winchester, Dublin, Hilliard, Gahanna, New Albany, Reynoldsburg, Southeast and Whitehall branches, officials said in the press release.

The library has required staff to wear masks, regardless of their vaccination status, since earlier this summer, officials said.
