The future of the MTA’s federal funding is in jeopardy after U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy threatened earlier this week to withhold money from the subway system unless public safety concerns were addressed, even as the MTA argues crime is already down.
Duffy says he expects the MTA to present concrete plans on how to reduce violence. A new report by the publication Vital City could help, as it provides recommendations on how to better promote safety underground — including establishing a unified governance system and improving responses to those suffering from mental illness.
Elizabeth Glazer, the founder and co-editor of Vital City, joined “Inside City Hall” Thursday night to break down the report.
