The city’s Emergency Management agency is bracing for steep federal funding cuts under the Trump administration, which could affect the city’s ability to respond to weather and health emergencies.
Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Isol testified during a City Council budget hearing last week, warning that federal spending cuts and layoffs could affect two-thirds of the agency’s budget, which is dependent on roughly $110 million in federal grants.
This comes as President Donald Trump has said he’s considering getting rid of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, also known as FEMA.
