Voters will soon decide the fate of the Menands Public Library.
The Menands Board of Education approved a proposal to vote on whether the ownership of the library should be transferred from the school district to the library's board of trustees. The vote will take place on May 20, coinciding with the district’s annual budget vote.
Under the proposed agreement, the library board of trustees would pay $1 to assume ownership of the building.
Officials say this change would grant the library more freedom in making improvements and updates without the school district.
