WORCESTER, Mass. – After a five-day trial, it took a Worcester Superior Court jury just hours to find Carlos Asencio guilty in the murder of Amanda Dabrowski.

Asencio is facing life in prison for the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend at O’Connor’s Restaurant and Bar in Worcester.

Asencio's defense argued he was suffering from psychosis during the attack on July 3, 2019, but the jury sided with the prosecution, who argued Asensio knowingly went after Dabrowski.

"While no verdict will ever bring Amanda back, we are relieved that the jury found this man responsible for taking her from us," said Amanda's dad, Ed Dabrowski. "We know he can never harm another person again. The jury helped us find some justice today, though we know there are no real winners here."

"I want to thank the ladies and gentlemen of the jury and the trial court for their professionalism and hard work in this matter," said Worcester County District Attorney, Joseph Early Jr. "And I especially also want to recognize the good samaritans who came to Amanda's aid in O'Connor's Restaurant that evening and charged an armed assailant, who had a knife and they did everything they could while trying to save Amanda. Their bravery was exemplary in what could only be called a horrific situation."

Asencio will be sentenced at a later date.
