SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - This week marks 30 years since the remains of Holly Piirainen were found, and authorities are still looking for answers.
Holly was 10 years old at the time of her disappearance. Her body was found by hunters in a wooded area off Bridge Road in Brimfield. She'd been with family in Sturbridge and was last seen by her father heading toward a home in the area of Allen and South Shore roads.
Earlier this year, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni released information on the ongoing investigation, which included further forensic testing on items documented in 1993. At a press conference Tuesday, Gulluni renewed his call for the public to reach out with information.
"My office and I are in frequent contact with Holly's family about the investigation,” he said. “It's a very active investigation that we continue to focus on and dedicate lots of time. We continue to ask the public for their help. If anyone has any information, no matter however small it might seem, please call my office."
Gulluni said his office is stilling getting leads from the public, three decades after Holly’s disappearance.
