Worcester, Mass. - On Sunday, everyone on Shrewsbury Street was Italian, as a parade celebrated the heritage of Worcester's Italian population.

The parade, which was formerly known as the Columbus Day parade, hadn't happened since October 2018. Organizers decided not to continue with the parade as it was.

On Sunday, people lined Shrewsbury Street in their red, white and green, celebrating not just their heritage, but the accomplishments of Italians from all over.

This year's grand marshal was local business owner Ed Russo. He was joined by city councilor Candy Mero-Carlson, who served as the parade's mayor.

The sky was clear, the sun was bright, and although it was a bit cool, it was a great day for a parade in Worcester.

"I think it's great that they brought it back," said Worcester resident Gina Zollo. "It was something, when I was a kid, it was called the Christopher Columbus Day parade. So, it's great to be back."

"I think it's a gorgeous day, and I'm glad that it has finally come back," said Worcester resident Scott Longvall. "I'm glad that its finally come back and it's nice to see the people actually turning out, supporting the parade. It can't get much better than this."

Following the parade, bands, food and vendors celebrated at Christoforo Colombo East Park.
