WORCESTER, Mass. — Some Worcester Housing Authority residents had a chance to receive food for healthy meals Friday.
The housing authority teamed up with the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Project Bread and the Regional Environmental Council for the food bag distribution in Great Brook Valley.
They handed out about 100 bags, which included produce like lettuce, squash, and apples to go along with a recipe book.
“As a health care provider, Kennedy Community Health Center, is aware of the rising rates of food insecurity” said Juli True Dooley, the director of marketing and development for the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center. “We’re excited to have grant funding to make this possible and bring food into the hands of people who need it the most.”
“It’s wonderful because sometimes for some people it is difficult to get these fruits and vegetables into people’s hands” said McDavid Rodriguez, farmers market manager for the Regional Environmental Council. “We as an organization try to go to these communities and try our best to spread the word that you can still get fruits and vegetables with SNAP and HIP.”
The Regional Environmental Council's mobile market stops in several different neighborhoods in Worcester and its surrounding towns.
