WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Red Sox will have a significant presence outside the walls of Polar Park this season.
All WooSox players will live in Worcester’s Canal District for the entire 2022 season. The organization has been working with a local real estate agent to find different locations in the area for players’ housing.
In an interview on Tuesday, Alex Richardson, WooSox manager of ballpark and community relations, said they wanted to put an emphasis on their players being a part of the community both on and off the field.
“We’re extremely excited for every single one of (the players) essentially to be here, in the Canal District, literally eating lunch on their off days with you, eating dinner, going to the public market,” Richardson said. “So we’re excited to have a whole group of them, every single one of our players here in the Canal District, just interacting with people, walking around, getting to know the city. So it’s an exciting time for them.”
Richardson said players will probably start moving into their canal district homes on April 1.
The WooSox season starts April 5 in Jacksonville against the Jumbo Shrimp (AAA-Miami). Opening Day at Polar Park is Tuesday, April 12.
