  • Young people ages 16-24 are eligible to apply

The Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods says the cabinet offers opportunities to increase advocacy skills, be more civically engaged and give insight on issues that impact Louisville.

Teodora Monteith is an inaugural member of the Metro Youth Cabinet.

“The idea of the youth cabinet is that there’s a young person from each district that represents their district on the youth cabinet. So I represent District 9,” said Monteith.

Since 2023, she has served her community and hosted events to prevent violence in Louisville.

“I actually got to host a conversation about violence and violence prevention and especially how young people can get involved in their neighborhood to address the causes of violence and also the effects of violence,” said Monteith.

And now, she is helping recruit the next cabinet.

She says potential applicants should think about how they are involved in the community.

“I think if I had to give tips for applicants, it would be to showcase your skills. Think about what you have already done for your city and how you are already involved. Whether that’s in your community center, maybe a library program, in your school,” said Monteith.

Monteith hopes to continue her work in violence prevention and wants to serve in an advisory role for the next cabinet.

Applications are open now until Sept. 30.
