LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Government has partnered with local organizations and churches to ensure access to emergency shelters and warming centers during the extreme cold.
Spectrum News 1 previously reported on the StrEatery food hall in the Beechmont neighborhood opening its doors as a shelter to help people escape the cold. It ended up closing down as a shelter, but Sojourn Church Carlisle in the Shively neighborhood stepped in to fill that need.
Councilwomen Betsy Ruhe, D-District 21, and Jennifer Chappell, D-District 15, worked with the city’s Codes & Regulations department to secure this location as an emergency overnight shelter.
“This effort is a testament to the collaborative work of several departments and organizations coming together for the good of our community,” Chappell said in a statement.
The church is on 3548 Taylor Boulevard. The actual shelter is about a block north of the church on the corner of Taylor Boulevard and Conn Street.
Intake is open daily from 6 to 9 p.m. ET. Those seeking refuge will be welcome to stay overnight until 9 a.m. The shelter will remain open while the severe cold weather persists.
