Winter is back in the form of snow, sleet and freezing rain. All of it will arrive later this evening into the overnight hours. Slick roads will affect the Tuesday morning commute, so plan ahead.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for most of Kentucky. It goes into effect this evening and continues through 1 p.m. Tuesday.

A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain will arrive in central and western Kentucky this evening between 7 and 10 p.m. Most of the precipitation will break out near and to the south of the Ohio River.

The precipitation will continue to spread east through the overnight with snow in northern Kentucky, sleet, freezing rain and snow along I-64, and freezing rain in central and western Kentucky.

By the morning commute on Tuesday, most of the precipitation will be out of Kentucky. The exception will be in southern and southeastern parts of the state. Either way, slick roads will be likely across the state.

Along the Bluegrass Parkways and southward, freezing rain will fall. 1/10 of an inch is possible with up to 1/4 of an inch in far southwest Kentucky. Freezing rain will accumulate on cars, trees and power lines. Watch for icy roads overnight into Tuesday morning, especially bridges and overpasses.

Snow and sleet accumulations along and to the north of I-64 should range about an inch or less. Some locally higher amounts are possible, but most areas will see an inch or less of snow and sleet by Tuesday morning. A glaze of ice is also possible in these areas.

Again, the Tuesday morning commute will be very slippery, so expect tricky travel. If it’s possible to stay home or head into work a little later in the day, plan on doing that.
