The annual Frymire winter weather forecast is officially out for Kentucky.
The Frymire winter weather forecast is a fun family tradition that's been around for decades!
Dick Frymire of Irvington, Ky., started it. He used a Japanese maple tree (looking at the tree bark, limbs and leaves), along with a "secret" formula to predict a winter forecast each year for Kentucky.
Dick loved everything about the weather. Back in the 1960s, he traveled to a conference in New York where he learned from another weather forecaster the key to predicting winter weather using the Japanese maple tree.
His popularity quickly took off nationally. He appeared on CNN and even on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He also loved to use his grandfather's medical knowledge to help others with homemade remedies.
Sadly, Dick passed away in 2013. But, he did pass along the tradition to his son, J.L. Frymire. Here is his latest winter outlook for this upcoming winter.
It's certainly fun to look at what might be ahead for us this upcoming winter. You can also see what NOAA's winter outlook has to say.
But, with any long-range forecast, there is a lot of uncertainty. As we know, with winter, it really comes down to those weekly forecasts!
