  • The pop culture exhibit will run through 2025

Corvettes are adored by many, both Kentuckians and tourists alike, including Caleb Beeson, a teacher from out of state who is taking his students on a trip to Indianapolis.

Beason said, “This was one of the stops I wanted to prioritize on the way up, so that my students could see the history of the corvette.”

Robert Maxhimer, the Director of Curatorial Affairs and Education, said, “Corvette has been in film since 1966, from that point on, in music, in literature, in film and TV, it pops up time and time again.”

Corvette fans can see the pop culture references in the new exhibit, “Pop Culture and Corvette: An American Love Affair.”

Fans can see the car as it was featured in TV series such as Hawaii Five-0 and in movies like Transformers. There have also been a few famous faces who owned Corvettes including Major League Baseball Star Reggie Jackson and Apollo Mission astronaut Jim Lowell.

Maxhimer said, “Every Corvette represents something different in each of these iterations.”

The exhibit also features a concept version of the C7 Corvette from the virtual racing world of Gran Turismo 6. But for Beason, it’s the country pop culture that is his favorite.

Beason said, “I’m a country enthusiast, so I was really drawn to the George Jones car to my left over here. Many others, Jerry Lee Lewis, that car, many others. I like the nostalgia of that and relate to it.”

For tourists like Beason, it adds an authentic feeling, getting to know the story behind the car, rather than just seeing what it’s like at face value.

Beason said, “Anything that has a true story behind it, whether we’re talking about cars or anything in life. That’s what really tugs at my heart. It’s really memorable and relatable.”

Fans can check out the pop culture exhibit through 2025.
