LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville men’s soccer team put another victory in the win column with a 4-0 defeat of Milwaukee Tuesday at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The Cardinals (6-4-4) matched their season high for goals and recorded their first clean sheet since blanking Kentucky on Sept. 9.
Louisville scored early and often, with Bilal Camara putting the Cards on the board first in the 18th minute. The sophomore lifted a well-placed shot over the keeper and into the left side of the net for his first tally in a Louisville uniform.
Gage Guerra followed that up with another goal just over three minutes later. Josh Jones launched a long ball from the defensive half that took a big hop over the keeper, finding Guerra in the perfect place to hit it home. It was his eighth goal of the season and sixth in his last five matches played. It was also his fifth consecutive match with a goal, making him the first Cardinal to score in five straight matches since 2001.
Louisville notched one more goal in the first half from Mason Tatafu, his first of the season. The senior caught the ball on a hop from a corner kick with a diving header in the 35th minute and beat the keeper to extend the lead to 3-0.
The three goals in the first 45 minutes are the most by the Cardinals in any half this season.
The Cardinals scored their fourth and final goal of the match right out of the half after just 39 seconds came off the clock. Guerra played a driving ground pass in from the right side that Parker Forbes got on the end of right in front of the net for his second goal of the year.
The Cardinal defense would take care of the rest to secure the 4-0 win over Milwaukee (6-4-4). AJ Piela nabbed his first career clean sheet, saving all four of the on-target shots by the Panthers.
Louisville had a 14-6 shooting edge and a 5-1 corner advantage.
UofL has two matches left in the regular season and both of them are ACC matches. The Cards hit the road to play NC State on Sunday, with a 6 p.m. ET kickoff.
