Official ballots are hitting mailboxes in Jefferson County, with Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, less than a month away.
“We want to make sure we get everyone who is registering today processed so we have those voters in our system when they go to vote, whichever day they choose,” said Ashley Tinius of the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office.
Registered voters have options this election. Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 are reserved for in-person, “no excuse" absentee voting at 20 locations around Jefferson County.
"Nov. 2 is a Saturday; you can go and vote on a Saturday if you’re not able to vote on Election Day, which is obviously on a Tuesday,” Tinius said.
Between now and then, Tinius said poll workers are about halfway through their election training. The Clerk’s Office also began preparing and testing their ballot machines.
Tinius said their plan is in motion and recommended voters have their own plan ready to go. Dean Toller, who lives across the street from the Jefferson County Election Center, said he's squared away to vote in his 14th presidential election.
"I've already registered, so all I have to do is go vote," Toller said.
The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office is expecting a 60-70% voter turnout for the general election while the last primary only brought out 13%.
