LEXINGTON, Ky. — The NCAA announced the University of Kentucky will host the first round of the 2028 NCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

This adds to five other NCAA championship events set to take place in Lexington over the coming years. UK is also set to host championship events in rifle, men's basketball, women's golf and gymnastics, in addition to the first round of the 2026 NCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

"Being a host in the postseason is important to reaching the elite status we are pursuing. We are proud to display the city of Lexington by bringing thousands of visitors to our community. I also want to thank our staff for all the hard work that goes into hosting championship-caliber events."

Here's a look at each event:

  • Rifle — The recently renovated Memorial Coliseum will host the 2025 NCAA Rifle Championships March 14-15. This is the first time UK Athletics has hosted the event; the school was slated to host the 2020 championship, which was nixed the day before it began due to COVID-19 concerns. 
  • Men's Basketball — Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center will host the first and second rounds of the 2025 NCAA Tournament March 20 and 22. It will be the 20,500-seat building's 14th time hosting the NCAA Tournament. Ticket information is available at ncaatickets.com
  • Women's Golf — UK will host an NCAA Regional May 5-7, 2025.
  • Women's Gymnastics — Memorial Coliseum will host a women's gymnastics regional April 2-5, 2026, for the third time in school history.
  • Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field — The first round of the 2026 NCAA Championships will take place May 28-30, 2026, at the UK Track and Field Complex, which will once again host the first round of the 2028 NCAA Championships.
