There are several career services at all 12 opportunity centers throughout the state. People seeking services go through an orientation class.

“Once we get you through that orientation class, we’ll orient you to what classes you need to take,” said Andrew Gillette, the director of development for Goodwill Industries of Kentucky. “These customized classes and curriculum we put together with our career coaches to help alleviate all of these barriers to employment.”

The West Louisville Goodwill Opportunity Center opened in April of this year. Almost 1,000 people have gone through the orientation class so far.

Providing employment and services to people who need a hand up is what the opportunity centers are all about.

“Today we’re actually asking the community to chip in and give us some support, votes of confidence, and a $10 donation to keep our programs and services running and thriving and expanding,” Gillette said about the “Goodwill Giving Day.”

More than 11,000 services have been rendered at the West Louisville center so far. Between the center and Norton Healthcare hospital located on the campus, about 500 people will be employed.
