LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After weeks of decline, gas prices in Kentucky are slightly on the rise, according to AAA East Central.

  • The average price per gallon in Kentucky for the week of Sept. 23, 2024, is $2.74 

  • That's a five-cent jump from last week

  • However, it's 65 cents lower compared to this time last year, when the average price per gallon was $3.39 

  • Today's national average is $3.20, which is 17 cents lower than a month ago and 65 cents lower than a year ago

The average price per gallon for the week of Sept. 23, 2024, is $2.74. That's a five-cent jump from the week of Sept. 16, 2024 ($2.69); however, it's 65 cents lower compared to this time last year, when the average price for the week of Sept. 25, 2023 was $3.39.

Here are the average prices per gallon of unleaded self-serve gasoline in various cities across the state:

$2.60        Elizabethtown

$3.03        Louisville

$2.62        Owensboro

$2.78        Paducah

Today's national average is $3.20, according to AAA East Central. That's 17 cents lower than a month ago and 65 cents lower than a year ago, with lower demand and oil prices contributing to a decrease in prices.

AAA said per the Energy Information Administration, gas demand increased last week from 8.47 million barrels per day to 8.77 million, while total domestic gasoline stocks remained flat at 221.6 million barrels. Gas production increased last week to 9.7 million barrels per day.

Crude oil inventories decreased by 1.6 million barrels from the previous week, AAA added per the EIA. U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average at this time of year at 417.5 million barrels.
