  • UK is off to its best start since 2011

  • Next for the Cats is No. 9 UCLA in Lexington

  • The match will be broadcast on ESPNU Sunday, Sept. 8

It was a defensive battle, as neither the Wildcats nor the Racers were going to let anyone get close to the net in the first half. After 45 minutes and despite out shooting Murray State 11-1, the score was 0-0 at the half.

The breakthrough finally came in the second half when Makala Woods found Anna Sikorski. Sikorski curled a shot just past Racers’ goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio for the point that would win the match.

According to UK, the win is historic because it’s the first time the program has started 6-0 since 2011 and only for the third time in program history. The 2011 squad went 7-0 to start the season before falling to No. 24 Dayton. It is also coach Troy Fabiano’s best start to a season since he took over the program in 2022. The match was also the fourth home shutout this season.

The Cats return to Bell Soccer Complex Sunday, Sept. 8 for a noon match against No. 9 UCLA on ESPNU. To find out which Spectrum channel the ESPNU is on in your area, you can go to our channel line up page.
