“I don’t want to give a kid a complex about themself while they’re reading it," Coleman said. "It’s about the cat.”

Louisville's Purrfect Day Cat Café recently hit a big milestone, as more than 10,000 cats have been adopted since it opened its doors in 2018.

“It’s just been an amazing, kind of humbling experience that (it) came to this to the point, where we’re now breaking records all the way across the U.S.” said Chuck Patton, owner and “purrprietor” of the café.

Coleman and Patton are siblings, and part of the inspiration behind "This Cat is Fat and I’m Fine with That!" is the Purrfect Day Cat Café.

“I came up with this line in my head, like, ‘It’s a perfect day at the cat café,’ after Purrfect Day Café, then it all just kind of came from there,” Coleman said.

She wrote, illustrated and printed the book herself, with her daughter being the driving force behind it.
