LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two Louisville teenagers who started a business several years ago are now published authors. The pair have written a children’s book about their business journey to encourage children six and up to jump start their careen in entrepreneurship.

Kentucky Country Day School seniors Katie Vonder Haar and Hailey Hertzman took the phrase “when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade,” literally. We first introduced you to them in 2019 when the pair started “Ooh La Lemon”. Now they’ve published a book.

To those who know them, Katie Vonder Haar and Hailey Hertzman are joined at the hip.

“Well, we went to the same preschool and our moms became like instant friends, so that kind of connected us together and we both came to KCD,” said Hertzman.

Both friends and business partners, the pair have a passion for sharing their love of entrepreneurship.

“We wanted to teach other kids that not only can they be entrepreneurs and what does that look like, but that they should also pursue whatever they’re passionate about now, and not wait until they are older,” said Vonder Haar.

They just published their first book, “Squeeze The Day,” a tale of their business journey of running a successful lemonade stand.

“We knew we wanted to write a children’s book I think about four years ago, It was really difficult to find a publisher, and manage writing a producing a whole book while we in still in school, doing other activities and still growing up,” said Vonder Haar.

Now, they are proud of their finished work.

“In the back of the book, we explain what some of the business terms we use in the book were. And they are very like simplified, like “expenses” which is how much you or the business spends,” said Hertzman.

With their book becoming a success and graduation is one semester away, they are ready to take on the business world.

At the team’s first book signing earlier this month, all their copies of “Squeeze The Day,” sold out. They say they’ll have more copies soon.
