LEXINGTON, Ky. — Dental Wellness of Lexington hosts free monthly clinics to not only offer important services to the community but to also train dentists from all over the U.S.
Participants complete DOCS Education’s IV Sedation Training for Dentists through the free clinics over a three-day period.
“I’m really appreciative for the opportunity and excited to bring this back to my hometown,” said Ben Scott of Illinois, who was one of seven dentists to participate in August’s clinic.
Sedating dental patients can help ease anxiety. More than 60% of respondents who participated in market research platform DentaVox’s survey suffer from dental fear.
The monthly clinics also help with cost barriers.
“If anybody out there is looking to have dentistry completed and they don’t have the financial means to do so and they’re willing to participate in this educational course, then we’d love to see them,” said Anthony Feck, course director of the clinics.
Dentists perform cleanings, fillings and extractions on patients during the free clinics.
“Over the last seven years, we have done upwards and now probably more than $3 million of free dentistry for people in Kentucky," said Carol Wilson, a dentist at Dental Wellness of Lexington, who also co-owns the practice. "Even patients come from West Virginia and North Carolina because they've heard about the clinic."
Dental Wellness of Lexington sees about 100 to 120 patients for its free clinics, which are held each month except for December.
