From Aug. 1-31, customers can come to any Kroger location, purchase jars of peanut butter and place them in a donation bin. Kroger said 100% of donations will benefit the local Feeding America Affiliate Food Bank, including Dare to Care Food Bank.

The grocery chain said peanut butter is a wanted item at food banks, as it lasts for long periods of time and is a great source of protein.

“Amidst unprecedented levels of food insecurity, staples such as peanut butter play a crucial role in supporting our community. We have distributed an additional 2 million pounds of food compared to last year, underscoring the significant impact this initiative will have on our community,” said Dare to Care Director of Communications Alexus Richardson. “We’re grateful to Kroger and our community for making this possible for our neighbors in need.”

“Seeing the donation bins fill up with peanut butter jars is always a great reminder of how much our customers care about the community and fighting hunger,” said Jake Cannon, division president of The Kroger Co., Louisville Division and Dare to Care Food Bank board member.

According to the Kroger, its Louisville Division donated 3.8 million pounds of food in 2023 to local Feeding America Food Banks and commits more than $5 million in donations annually to support the company’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Initiative. Kroger and Dare to Care partner on the Zero Hunger Mobile Market, a one-aisle grocery store which operates five days a week in locations identified as food deserts.
