The system started to come back on Friday evening, July 26.

“I’m really proud of the team for what they’ve done and accomplished in those days,” said Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw.

Though the office is normally closed Saturdays, branches were open to assist those who couldn’t come in during the week.

Mor Dieng was among the many customers who stopped by one of the branches. He said he tried taking care of his car’s registration during the week but couldn’t because the office was closed.

“I really appreciate that; I was really happy for that, too, because I’ve been wanting to get this done the whole week,” Dieng said.

How the cyberattack happened is still under investigation, Holsclaw said, adding it appears no personal information was accessed.

“I will get a report on how it did happen,” Holsclaw said. “I’ll certainly be looking at our prevention, if we fell short anywhere ... or if it’s something we couldn’t do anything about.”
