LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A young goat named Roman was abandoned at GiddyUp Horse and Wildlife Rescue in Missouri a few weeks ago. On Sunday, he arrived in Louisville to live out the rest of his life at Butterfly Valley Rescue and Sanctuary.

What You Need To Know

  •  Roman, a young goat from Missouri, was rescued after being abandoned and has been brought to Louisville

  •  Butterfly Valley Rescue and Sanctuary is taking Roman in. It's a sanctuary that rescues lots of special needs animals

  •  Roman doesn't have a lot of use of his back legs and the sanctuary put him in a wheelchair when he arrived in Louisville

The sanctuary was founded by Nikki and Brandon Feusner and they have about 50 animals, many with special needs.

The Feusner’s have noticed that Roman’s back legs have some movement, but the little goat crawls using his two front legs. When the couple heard about Roman needing a home, they jumped into action.

“We said, ‘Hey, we have a wheelchair available right this moment. If we can figure out getting him to us here in Louisville, he’s got a home forever,’ and fortunately in about a 24-hour period of time, we were able to set up the entire transport,” Brandon said.

It was an over 700-mile journey for Roman. He was met with lots of love from the Feusner’s when he arrived in Louisville and they put him in a wheelchair. Because the sanctuary specializes in working with animals with special needs, they have a plan in place to help Roman.

“We’re just excited to get this journey started with him and see what we can get him to do,” Nikki said.

Butterfly Valley Rescue and Sanctuary posts on their Facebook page to give updates on the animals under its care.
