FORT KNOX, Ky. — As the U.S. celebrates 248 years of independence, Fort Knox is gearing up to host several July 4 activities.

  • The annual "Freedom Fest" celebration is returning to Fort Knox for the Fourth of July 

  • Celebrations begin at 6 p.m. and will include a "Salute to the Nation" ceremony at 9 p.m., followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. 

  • Food and beverages will be available for purchase 

  • The U.S. Army installation is south of Louisville and north of Elizabethtown 

The U.S. Army installation south of Louisville and north of Elizabethtown will honor the holiday with its annual "Freedom Fest" celebration, a "Salute to the Nation" ceremony and fireworks on Brooks Parade Field.

Fort Knox said celebrations begin at 6 p.m. and will feature bounce houses, family activities, games and live music from central Kentucky-based cover band Grafenburg. The "Salute to the Nation" ceremony begins at 9 p.m. and will include the traditional firing of 51 cannon rounds, one for each state and one for the six U.S. territories. Festivities conclude with a fireworks show around 10 p.m., courtesy of Fort Knox's Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recognition.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase, but guests should bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, Fort Knox said. 

All activities are open to the public, and visitors coming from off post should enter the Chaffee (main) gate while following direction signs to Brooks Parade Field.
