LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An organization serving the homeless celebrated a milestone, as Hope Village wrapped up two years of service.
Hope Village's third year of service began with volunteers making the village feel like home.
“We are here helping at the Hope Village, and we are painting the pods, or I believe they call them 'kiosks,'” said volunteer Louwana Ball.
It was Ball's first time volunteering for Hope Village.
“There's always something to do in the community, right? The Hope Village ... resonates with something that I’m really passionate about, which is helping the unhoused community, the homeless community,” Ball said.
Over the organization's last two years, it has helped 200 people receive housing and 150 people find permanent housing.
“We have a lot of movement going on," said Angel Todd, Hope Village site director. "We always say that it's all about everyone deserving community, and that's what today is about (and) what the whole village is about."
Its work is not done. As Hope Village enters its third year, Todd said the organization wants to expand the community that each of its residents encounter.
"We're super excited when we have so many more churches join in, when we see random folks who are coming in and wanting to engage (with) us and find out what it is that we do here,” Todd said.
The freshly painted kiosks serve as homes for the unhoused.
“Each of these kiosks, I believe, really represents a story," Ball said.
Ball added she plans to volunteer again. More on the organization and its mission can be found on its website.
