LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Rep. Morgan McGarvey, D-Ky., is launching a Youth Advisory Council for rising high school seniors entering the 2024-2025 academic year.
According to McGarvey's office, the nonpartisan initiative aims to spark civic engagement among students, providing them with the opportunity to advise McGarvey on important issues. It will meet several times privately with him.
“One of the things I love doing as a member of Congress is meeting with students," McGarvey said. "Some of the best questions and best ideas come from speaking with young adults. The Youth Advisory Council will give rising high school seniors living in Louisville the opportunity to advise me on policy, debate ideas and collaborate on solutions that will make our community and our country stronger."
McGarvey's office said applications for the Youth Advisory Council will be open through May 24 before acceptance letters will be sent in June. More information about the application process, requirements and deadlines can be found on McGarvey's website.
Applicants must reside in Kentucky's Third Congressional District and be high school students entering their senior year. The council's membership will be limited to under 100 students. Service will begin in the fall before concluding upon graduation.
